Owls, Fish and Toadstools

Another busy weekend baking, 3 cakes and 2 batches of cupcakes along with countless fondant figures and some fondant covered cookies which I will upload later when I finish them.

An old one I found on the computer - Mickeys hat in the Fantasia 2000 film.

Coffee cake with chocolate sprinkles for the inlaws

A birthday cake with bunting around the outside and pretty flowers on top for a colleague at work. Got to play with my new gumpaste mould to make the bunting, turned out to be much easier than I thought.

My favourite cake of the weekend, using up left over fondant, cake and buttercream from the weekends baking, a simple but elegant owl cake with handmade fondant owls.

I absolutely love these little spring time cupcakes, I baked them in silicone flower pot cases and all the figures on top are handmade in fondant. My favourites are the toadstools which really look to good to eat!

Last but not least..

Handmade fishing cupcakes - fondant fish, rods, sharks and worms on hooks.

Busy busy weekend! Until next time, happy baking.

This weekends offerings

Second post in one weekend and I think I'm getting the hang of blogging :-)

Been a busy bee this weekend having fun with cupcakes.

I love this gorgeous trio of cupcakes, I had great fun making the bees and I think they turned out great. Close up below:

Continuing the spring theme with this pretty pink butterfly in a garden of flowers.(above)
And 2 more butterfly cupcakes, simple and elegant (below)

1 chocolate and 2 vanilla buttercream roses with fondant flowers. I must admit that the pink one is my favourite:

This group of 4 pretty girlie cupcakes are perfect with a nice cold drink out in the sunshine.

And these ones are for the chocoholic in the family.

My second favourite cupcake of the day:

                                                                   Monster!!!!!

To end the day - a little early maybe but gorgeous none the less - Christmas Penguins

That's all for this weekend, so until next time - happy baking!!

First Post

Well after months of debating I have finally decided to take the plunge and start a blog to share with you all my cakes, cupcakes and creations.

I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I enjoyed making them (and my husband enjoyed eating them), please feel free to comment especially with suggestions for what you would like to see next!!

Some of my oldest creations that I actually took pictures of:

Hamburger style cupcakes
I made these using a plain cupcake cut in half with some sesame seeds sprinkled on the top as the "bun", a slice from a chocolate cupcake in the middle as the "burger" and then icing in 3 different colours for the different relishes. A little bit of fun on a cold afternoon.

Harry Potter Sorting Hat cake
This was a cake for a friends birthday, she wanted a sorting hat cake so I added a couple of other Harry Potter elements as well. I must admit I am particularly proud of the golden snitch!

Pac Man Cake
A cake version of the retro game for my Husbands birthday. Very time consuming piping it all but loved the way the ghosts came out.

The Wizard of Oz cake
A birthday cake for my mum of her favourite film, complete with ruby red slippers and the wicked witch of the east being crushed by the house.

Cake course
This cake I created on a cake decorating course I attended to perfect my fondanting skills. Love the colours on it!
